Mat Lock
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Mat Lock on May 17th 2015 after a long battle with cancer.
Mat had attended several EAHORC race meetings and always brought a smile to anyone who met him.
An accomplished artist, one of his pictures captured a race meeting in session and takes pride of place on this website and the Facebook page.
Matthews funeral will be held on Monday June 1st at 2:00pm at Bristol South Crematorium.

AFX Racemasters News
AFX Racemasters will be releasing a new chassis late this year/early next. It will be called the Mega-G Plus and will be outwardly similar to the current Mega-G. Due largely to existing US legislation, AFX were forced to use a can motor (FN20) to cut down on interference. This means different shoes (but also a second electrical path) and other electricals such as the return of 'busses'. The motor makes about 5% less RPM but 30% more torque than the current motor while using 33% less electricity. The motor runs over 25% cooler and lasts about twice as long as current motor in tests so far. Existing closed wheel bodies will fit, existing Open Wheel ones will not. The new chassis incorporates the more forward guide position pioneered by the EAHORC group, and Steve Russell from AFX has thanked us for our contribution. Similarly the new versions of the Open Wheel bodies will have narrower front wings. (photos courtesy of AFX Racemasters) |
Also announced is the news of two new Daytona Cobra Coupes to be released as a twin pack. These will be two different liveries (tba) of the original Cobra Daytona Coupe as driven by Land Speed Record Holder Craig Breedlove, then owned by Jim Russell of Russkit, later sold to music producer Phil Spector. |
20-9-2014
The 2014-15 EAHORC season kicked off on the south coast with 22 racers taking to the track at the home of Worthing HO Racing in Goring-by-Sea.
An enjoyable day saw wins for Mike Dadson in Open Wheel and Nascar, Andy Whorton in LMP1, Dave Peters in Closed Wheel and Clive Harland picking up the win in the reformated Pro-Mod championship. The Open Wheel A final saw an incredibly close three-way battle for the win. There were other memorable performances, including Duncan Skelt's rapid Tyco in the morning and Louis Townsend's popular and well-deserved B final win in LMP1. There's a full report and video on the results page. Thanks go to all at WHO Racing for laying on another excellent Saturday event at The Barn and to all who took part and made it such a good day's racing. |

The HO slot car racing scene in the UK sees a big change this summer with Deane Walpole handing over the running of the Eahorc racing series to a new team of organisers.
Andy Whorton and Marc Townsend from the Four Lane Black Top club are joined by Andy Player of Worthing HO Racing as the new 'troika' in charge of EAHORC. "There's no doubt that Deane has been a massive influence in developing the HO scene in the UK" says Andy Player. "Over the past twelve years, EAHORC has reached a wide layer of new racers, inspired the creation of new HO clubs and promoted the latest developments in the hobby". "We have very big shoes to fill - thankfully there are three of us to fill them - but we are looking forward to developing our weekend racing series and to work more closely with other HO racing clubs in the Midlands and north of the country". |

Round eight of the EAHORC championship took place on June the 1st in Marlborough, with race Coordinator Live being used for the first time.
Mike Dadson and Deane Walpole won their classes and championships, but the star of the day was Henry Townsend (aged 7) who produced another very strong run in Open Wheel.
Gareth Winslade won CW, to make that title almost beyond anyone elses reach. Rob Lees was in brilliant form in OW, taking Main Grade and several Prem scalps along the way
The season now ends at the end of the month with the most intense title showdown in it's history, after an amazing OW win at this round for Andy Whorton.

Round 7 of the EAHORC National championship had to be hastily rescheduled at the last minute, with HONK stepping admirably to host in the former home in St Paul's Cray.
A depleted field thus met up to use BSTS banked turns for the first time.
There were wins for Andy Whorton and Al Wood after epic battles in Open Wheel and CW respectively, as well as Deane Walpole and Mike Dadson. Al also won Main Grade.

The first national meeting of 2014 took place at SCHORC's Yelling base on January the 26th, flood plains and large puddles replacing the snows of 2013.
With 20 on the grid the place was all bustle and noise, and a chance to catch up with people not seen for a while. John Chell was one such example, making a return to Sunday racing after a long gap.
Wins were shared between Al Wood (Main Grade and CW), Clive Harland (Premier grade, after an intense struggle with Mike Dadson, who won Nascar) and Marc Townsend (LMP1).

1-12-13
A great year of racing nationally was completed with round five of the 2013/14 season being held in Marlborough, back at the church hall. There were wins for Mike Dadson and Andy Whorton, but the highlight of the day was relative newcomer Dave May taking a stonking win in Pro-Mod with a cheapo Parma controller.

October 27th saw EAHORC return to the Viking Slot Car Club for HONK's round of the National championship, following the loss of HONK HQ in Lordswood. As before our track was laid on top of Viking's 1/32nd layout, and even had a bit of the feel of the old HQ monster!
There were wins for Andy Whorton in both Open Wheel and CW, as well as my own personal highlight of the day with Viking member Dave May winning Main Grade with a car he purchased on race day 10 minutes before racing started!
Other winners included Mike Dadson and Clive Harland.

Round two of the 2013/14 season took place at WHO in Worthing on September 29th. Clive Harland too another Open Wheel win and was desperately unlucky not to win a manic Pro-Modified final as well. the win in that class falling to FLBT club-mate Marc Townsend. Nascar ran for the first time this season, local and former Open Wheel A final winner John Ferigno taking the spoils. LMP1 also made it's season debut and saw the first win for Deane Walpole in several seasons. Other winners were Dave Peters (CW) and Simon Coombes (Main Grade).
9-9-13
Another season kicked off with a low-key but enjoyable meeting at SCHORC on September 8th. Reigning Open Wheel champion Clive Harland got his title defence off to a perfect start with another class win. Elsewhere there were wins for Gareth Winslade (CW), Andy Player (Pro) and local Al Wood (Main), as only two of the four afternoon classes ran.
30-6-2013
The best season of on-track action in EAHORC's history took place at the end of June in Worthing, featuring championship showdowns in three classes. Mike Dadson took the EAHORC cup, as well as LMP1, with Clive Hardland winning Open Wheel. Other 12/13 champions include Dave Hannington (Nascar) and Worthing HO (Club).
8-6-2013
The penultimate round of the 2012/13 championship saw the first national race on a Saturday for the first time in years, as EAHORC dropped back into Edmonton for another visit to London. Mike Dadson took and LMP1 win and runner-up spot (behind Andy Whorton) in Open Wheel, to put himself in a strong position for the EAHORC cup. Elsewhere there were wins for Andy Player (Nascar) and John Ovens (CW and Main Grade).
19-5-2-2013
Round 8 of the 2012/13 championship, a low-key and chilled affair at NSR in Norwich, saw another win for Clive Harland in OW, and yet another win for Andy Player in Pro-Modified. But both Gareth Winslade (LMP1) and Lee Taylor (CW) took their first ever national wins.
Lee also won Main Grade.

EAHORC returned to Kesgrave for a meeting that had profound consequences for the massive scraps for various honours. Clive took the OW win against the run of play, Andy Whorton took yet another LMP1 win, beating Clive's big rival Mike Dadson. Paul Rose took a popular CW win and Andy Player too yet another Pro win despite being run closer than usual by Clive in the heats.
The big stories, however, were another Nascar win for Dave Hannington which meant he is now a TRIPLE Nascar champion, and the amazing pace of six year old Henry Townsend.

Racing returned to FLBT's 'other' home, the Scout hut in Marlborough for a cracking meeting which saw their best bridge to date and a new method of race control formally tried for the first time. Mike Dadson and Clive Harland continued their epic OW battle, Mike and Andy Whorton battled fiercely in LMP1 and everyone was treated to not one but two 'instant classic' finals.
AFX have revealed to EAHORC that they plan to release a 1969 Mustang and a 1969 Chevy Camaro in a set exclusive to one of the big US chains. More exciting from our point of view will be a Gen-6 Nascar Ford (and possibly Chevy)
24-2-2013
After a long break, in part caused by the snow in January causing a round to be cancelled, EAHORC resumed in style with the 5th running of HO Grand Prix. This staged image shows the finishing order: Mike Dadson, taking his first OW win, from Clive Harland and Marc Townsend (an inch apart), 4th HOGP winner Andy Whorton, Deane Walpole and Andy Player.
20-12-2012
The new Life-Like Nascars are out, including two versions of the #88. Note the shells stiff have a rear wing even though the 'real' Gen5 and Gen6 COTS have spoilers.

17 racers rocked up for the annual 'Christmas' meeting at MBRHO in King's Lynn. Martin Hill reminded us all just how good he is with an emphatic win in OW, but Clive Harland bested Andy Whorton and the battle between these two will run and run...
Elsewhere there was another win for Andy Player in Pro-Mod, another LMP1 win for Mike Dadson and another CW win for Craig Homewood, but the star of the closed-wheel session was Callum Davidson with a classy win in Nascar ahead of double-champ Dave Hannington, and former class winner Paul Whorton.

Wins for Clive Harland (first win in OW), Mike Dadson (LMP1), Craig Homewood (CW, formerly Modified) and Dave Hannington (Nascar) got the 2012/13 season underway at SCHORC.
The meeting was notable for that first 'F1' win for Clive, the first ever absence of Deane Walpole and the first use of Alan Wood's timing system.
